Buckingham and Masson-Angers are Gatineau's two easternmost sectors. Buckingham straddles the Lièvre River near where it meets the Ottawa River, and Masson-Angers runs along the north shore of the Ottawa River. According to the City of Gatineau, Buckingham had 13,378 residents in 2024 (median age 47) and Masson-Angers had 13,724 residents (median age 37); in Masson-Angers, 40% of households have three or more people.
A little history
Buckingham became a town in 1890. Masson separated from the township of Buckingham in 1897, the village of Angers separated from L'Ange-Gardien in 1915, and Masson became the town of Masson-Angers in 1993. On January 1, 2002, Aylmer, Buckingham, Gatineau, Hull and Masson-Angers merged to form the city of Gatineau. Industry shaped the region: James Maclaren's sawmill opened in Buckingham in 1864, followed by a pulp and paper mill in Masson in 1929.

The sector's French public schools are part of the Centre de services scolaire au Cœur-des-Vallées (CSSCV). Your child's school depends on your address.
Buckingham Elementary is the only Western Québec School Board school in the sector; its nearest high schools (Hadley Junior High and Philemon Wright High School) are in the Hull sector. English public school requires a certificate of eligibility.

Transportation
The STO network serves Buckingham and Masson-Angers, including STO on demand (544 stops, from 6 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 7 a.m. to midnight on weekends) and three park-and-rides: Georges/Foucault (1069, rue Georges, 143 spaces), Georges/Route 148 (39 spaces) and Angers (255, rue du Progrès, 60 spaces). The Rapibus does not reach the sector: its eastern terminus is Labrosse station. Autoroute 50 and Route 148 are the main roads.
Outdoor life and heritage
Masson-Angers is home to the 247 ha Marais-Trépanier nature reserve. In Buckingham, the “Buckingham, ville énergie” walking tour is open year-round, and built heritage includes the Château de Buckingham, Édifice du Vieux-Marché (1903), Maison Kenny (1845) and Saint-Grégoire-de-Nazianze church (1887).
