Living in the Gatineau sector: 2026 guide

The Gatineau sector is the former city of Gatineau, formed in 1975 by the merger of seven municipalities, including Pointe-Gatineau, Touraine and Templeton. It's the city's most populous sector, with about 120,860 residents in 2024 according to the City of Gatineau. In Q2 2026, the median single-family price there was $490,000 (QPAREB).
Neighbourhoods in the Gatineau sector
The sector includes Limbour (Côte-d'Azur, Mont-Luc), Touraine (Riviera, Val d'Oise, Le Baron), Pointe-Gatineau (Place Lucerne, Parc Maisonneuve, La Baie), Vieux-Gatineau around Lac Beauchamp, Bellevue and Templeton (Sainte-Rose, La Soblimière).
A little history
Pointe-à-Gatineau separated from Templeton in 1876, the village of Gatineau separated from Templeton-Ouest in 1933 and became a town in 1957. In 1975, Pointe-Gatineau, Gatineau, Touraine, Templeton-Ouest, Templeton-Est, Templeton-Est-Partie-Est and the village of Templeton merged to form the city of Gatineau, which then merged with Aylmer, Buckingham, Hull and Masson-Angers in 2002.
Transportation: the Rapibus
Six STO Rapibus stations are in the Gatineau sector: Lorrain, Labrosse, Gouin, de la Cité, Les Promenades and de la Gappe, with park-and-rides at Lorrain (219 spaces), Labrosse (579) and de la Gappe (200). The corridor continues into Hull as far as Taché-UQO station. By car, Autoroute 50 connects the sector to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge toward downtown Ottawa.

Greater Gatineau Elementary is the only Western Québec School Board school in the sector; its Hadley Junior High and Philemon Wright High School are in the Hull sector. English public school requires a certificate of eligibility.
